Business NZ welcomes the Government’s announcement of five new trade academies across the country.
This move reflects the need for increased flexibility for young people to choose education and training options that are the right fit for students, and provide value for business.
Business NZ Chief Executive Phil O’Reilly said the trade academies are a key route to skills, bringing benefits and opportunities to both employers and students.
“The trade academies recognise the importance of employers and industries working in partnership with schools and tertiary education organisations.
“There needs to be a strong linkage here to make sure industry and firms are getting the skills they need to succeed, and likewise, young people are well prepared for employment pathways available to them.
“This change will strengthen the education and training pathways to the workplace for young New Zealanders.
“We must continue to ensure young people have strong fundamentals of literacy and numeracy, and that they are supported by high quality and relevant careers information and guidance.”
