Business NZ is supportive of a good hard look at regulations affecting enterprise and will actively cooperate with the review announced today by the Minister of Commerce, Business NZ Chief Executive Phil O’Reilly said today.
“The aims of streamlining regulations, slimming down the number of audits required, removing ‘silos’ from the regulatory landscape and making regulations fit for purpose will be endorsed by all business,” Mr O’Reilly said.
“While the proof of the process will be in the execution, and while there are no guarantees that the review will effectively deal to the ‘big ticket’ regulation issues, business will definitely support the review announced today.
“I share the Minister’s concern about the low quality of some regulatory impact statements currently attached to proposed legislation. Improving this process before legislation is passed, not after, could make a major dent in compliance costs faced by business.
“I am also heartened by the fact that the review is being spearheaded by the same Minister who was responsible for major improvements in regulations relating to immigration work permits in 2002.
“Business NZ will support both the sectoral and general work associated with the new review.”
